WELCOME TO ICABE 2013!

International Conference of Architecture and Built Environment 2013 (ICABE2013) is organised in line with the 30th IIUM Anniversary Celebration.  The aim of the conference is to bring together scholars, researchers, practitioners and students from all areas of Islamic Architecture and the Built Environment.  It significantly marks the foundation of a closer cooperation in areas related to teaching and learning in higher education, Islamic Architecture and the Built Environment ranging from research, publication, consultancy, students and staffs exchanges between all of the institutions.

The ICABE 2013 focuses on experiences from Malaysia and other counterparts in relation to the contemporary global agenda on the built environment.  Special attention is given to three aspects: social, economic and environment of human life, in which their co-existence is essential for sustainability of mankind.  In this regards, the elements of architecture and the built environment from the context of Islam will be the main focus of discussion, as we believe that the notion of sustainability has been addressed either directly or indirectly in the Holy Quran.  Many verses mention the element of environment in relation to sustainable development.  Therefore, it is the intention of the conference to academically debate the theme 'Islamic Architecture and the Built Environment'.
